I/we (Patricia Jeanne + Lizzie Lizard Brain) learned this shortly after becoming consultants. The notion "You get what you pay for," taught us to stop charging less than others to get established. It made clients doubt our ability and undervalue results if they felt they got discounted service. Oddly enough, Patricia Jeanne got this bright idea she could dump clients she didn't like by raising her prices. Nope. They were proud to pay premium. Lizzie says people are dumb.
